Connecting SharePoint 2016/2019 and ADFS Server (Part 1) Introduction Many corporations are making the decision to open up their SharePoint Server to the outside world, to mobile users or for external collaboration with their partners. We have a SharePoint 2016 farm with 8 servers. I know in Sharepoint 2013 with ADFS, there was an issue where the search crawler required Kerberos/NTLM, so the solution was to extend the web application and make the default zone a random high port with kerberos auth, while the new zone was configured on port 443 and ADFS for users to log onto. You can use ADFS and WAP, where WAP is domain joined and you can use Windows AuthN. Step 1 - Install to local Trusted Root The first thing we want to do with this cert is to install it into the trusted root for the computer. Note that this post is NOT intended to provide steps to configure SharePoint to use ADFS, or explain what ADFS is.The aim is to explain why certificate renewal is necessary, and describe how to do it with ADFS 2.0 and SharePoint Server 2010. I also need to authenticate such requests using cookies obtained from ADFS server.
